Technical Writer (f/m/d)
München
Full-time
Permanent employee
Description
We are seeking a skilled technical writer to own the documentation for our quantum sensing measurement systems. In this role, you sit at the interface of every engineering discipline: software, hardware and electronics, optics, mechanics, and user interface. You gather what the experts know, turn it into clear and consistent documentation, and make a highly complex instrument understandable for operators, service technicians, and customers. You produce the full set of manuals that ship with the product and keep them accurate as the product evolves.
Who we are
Founded in 2022 as a spin-off of TU Munich, QD leverages quantum sensors to rapidly capture three-dimensional current maps within multi-layer chips. Our strong, international team of over 70, including physicists, engineers, data scientists, and other experts, works side by side with major semiconductor manufacturers, supporting chip debugging and accelerating yield analysis. Backed by top-tier deep tech investors, semiconductor experts, and strategic public programs, we have ensured long-term stability, shifting from breakthrough to scale - and shaping the next chapter in chip testing.
Why join us?
Picture this:
- Quantum sensors that see inside the most advanced chips on Earth, right where two frontier fields collide.
- Nobel-Prize physics aimed at real customers with real problems, in production now, not someday.
- Physicists, data scientists, and engineers building side by side, turning deep science into tools the industry actually runs on.
- An international team that runs at hard problems for fun, where knowledge moves fast and so do you.
- You'll get to build a company together with a brilliant and welcoming team on a product that has never been done before.
- From Day 1, you'll own your own topics end to end and see the direct impact of your work on how the world sees QuantumDiamonds.
- Our technology is the cutting edge of tomorrow, starting today and not in 10 years.
- You’ll be part of a high-growth company backed by top-tier investors.
What will you do
- Pull technical knowledge out of every discipline: interview engineers across software, hardware, optics, mechanics, and UI, and gather input from application, service, and production, then turn scattered expertise into structured, coherent documentation.
- Own the full documentation set end to end: User Manual, Service and Maintenance Manual, Hook-up and Installation guides, safety instructions, and quick-start guides.
- Build and maintain a consistent documentation structure, terminology, and template system that scales across products and releases.
- Create technical illustrations and diagrams, deriving them from CAD data (SolidWorks) where useful.
- Keep the documentation compliant with the relevant standards (for example IEC/IEEE 82079-1, CE / Machinery Directive, SEMI S2 and S8), in coordination with Product Development.
- Manage versioning and release of documents in line with the product lifecycle.
What is expected of you
- Several years writing technical documentation for complex custom machinery.
- The ability to grasp a technical system quickly and get the right information out of busy engineers.
- Clear, concise technical writing. Working language is English.
- Fluency with authoring tools (for example Adobe FrameMaker or similar) and illustration software.
- A structured, self-directed way of working and a high bar for quality.
- We hire for demonstrated skill rather than a specific degree; a technical, scientific, or documentation background is typical.
- Structured authoring (DITA, component content management systems).
- Documentation for semiconductor or cleanroom equipment.
- Experience with localization and translation workflows, including AI-assisted translation and post-editing.
- You own outcomes, not tickets.
- A manual is done when it matches the machine, not when the draft is full.
- You go to the bench and the engineers to verify, rather than guessing from a spec sheet.
Our benefits

About us
QuantumDiamonds GmbH, headquartered in Munich, Germany, develops and manufactures semiconductor inspection systems based on quantum sensing. Spun out of the Technical University of Munich in 2022, the company uses nitrogen-vacancy centers in diamond to map electrical current with micrometer precision inside advanced 2.5D and 3D chip architectures. Nine of the world's ten largest semiconductor manufacturers are engaged with QuantumDiamonds, with systems deployed across Europe, the United States, and Asia. The company is investing €152 million to build the world's first production facility for quantum sensing-based semiconductor inspection tools, supported under the European Chips Act.
