Lead Application Engineer Asia (f/m/d)

Taiwan
Full-time
Permanent employee

Description

As our Lead Application Engineer Asia (f/m/d), you will be QuantumDiamonds' technical anchor in the region, working closely with our Customer Project Lead at QD HQ and our Managing Director APAC. QuantumDiamonds is a novel equipment vendor from Germany that builds novel magnetic field imaging systems based on quantum sensors, and for most of our customers across Asia this technology is still new.

Based in Taiwan and traveling around 35% of your time to customers and distributors in Japan, Korea, Singapore, and China, you will be the on-the-ground expert who makes our QDm.1 technology tangible: explaining it, troubleshooting it, and helping customers grow into confident users. This is a hands-on individual contributor role for someone who enjoys being close to the customer, bringing structure to a fast-moving, high-touch service environment, and finding pragmatic solutions on-site rather than from a distance.

Asia FA labs are largely operational teams without an R&D background, distributors are not yet able to cover deeper technical questions on their own, and our technology roadmap keeps evolving quickly. That combination means customers and distributors rely on someone in their own time zone who can turn complex quantum sensing technology into practical value, and who can do it consistently as the region and our product mature.

Who we are

Founded in 2022 as a spin-off of TU Munich, QD leverages quantum sensors to rapidly capture three-dimensional current maps within multi-layer chips. Our strong, international team of over 70, including physicists, engineers, data scientists, and other experts, works side by side with major semiconductor manufacturers, supporting chip debugging and accelerating yield analysis. Backed by top-tier deep tech investors, semiconductor experts, and strategic public programs, we have ensured long-term stability, shifting from breakthrough to scale - and shaping the next chapter in chip testing.

Why join us?

Picture this:
  • Quantum sensors that see inside the most advanced chips on Earth, right where two frontier fields collide.
  • Nobel-Prize physics aimed at real customers with real problems, in production now, not someday.
  • Physicists, data scientists, and engineers building side by side, turning deep science into tools the industry actually runs on.
  • An international team that runs at hard problems for fun, where knowledge moves fast and so do you.
Still unsure about why joining us?
  • You'll get to build a company together with a brilliant and welcoming team on a product that has never been done before.
  • From Day 1, you'll own your own topics end to end and see the direct impact of your work on how the world sees QuantumDiamonds.
  • Our technology is the cutting edge of tomorrow, starting today and not in 10 years.
  • You’ll be part of a high-growth company backed by top-tier investors.
Let’s make the invisible visible!

What will you do

Technical Account Support
  • Provide 2nd level application support to customers and distributors across Asia, with prompt, same-time-zone expertise on data analytics, sample testing and follow-up, results interpretation, technical discussions, and tactics for novel or difficult test cases.
  • Represent QD as a technical expert at Asia tradeshows, workshops, and industry events, strengthening our professional image and helping prepare tailored presentation material for customer visits.
  • Act as the bridge between the Asia region and our HQ application team, leveraging QD's global experience and results for local customer success.
Product Success & Adoption
  • Build customer confidence by explaining the benefits of the QDm.1 technology and defining success criteria for each specific application.
  • Influence customers from a technical perspective to support their adoption of QD products.
  • Support successful on-site demonstrations of the QDm.1 technology.
  • Resolve complex bugs by diagnosing system-level failures, hardware defects, and software issues, visiting customer sites where needed.
  • Perform failure analysis on returned chips or boards to isolate issues between hardware, firmware, or tool configuration, sustaining tool uptime.
  • Provide deep technical guidance to customer engineering teams on results interpretation, tool configuration, and test protocols.
  • Propose improvements and new features that arise from debugging product issues in the field.
  • Present successfully implemented improvements and new features back to customers, supporting sales and promotion efforts.
Technical Training
  • Develop training material suited for the Asia market.
  • Organise pre- and post-sales training sessions that attract customers and create excitement about the technology.
  • Run post-sales training sessions that make customers' operational staff familiar with the tool and grow them into confident “super-users.”
  • Deliver technical trainings to distributors, QD's field service engineers, and QD's field application engineers to raise their technical competence.
Reporting
  • Keep stakeholders aligned through documentation, written summaries, structured reports, and oral presentations.

What is expected of you

  • 7+ years of experience in application engineering, technical customer support, or field service, ideally in semiconductor, failure analysis, or another deep-tech / hardware environment.
  • A strong troubleshooting mindset, with experience diagnosing hardware, firmware, or software issues on complex lab or fab equipment.
  • Confidence engaging directly with customer engineering teams and explaining complex, novel technology in a clear and credible way.
  • Fluent English, Mandarin Chinese or another regional language is a must have given our customer base across Taiwan, China, Japan, Korea, and Singapore.
  • Based in Taiwan or willing to relocate, with willingness to travel around 35% of the time within Asia.
  • Experience developing and delivering technical training or workshops to varied audiences such as customers, distributors, or colleagues.
  • A proactive, self-driven way of working, comfortable operating as an individual contributor without a local team around you.
  • Strong communication and relationship-building skills across cultures and organisational levels, from lab operators to senior stakeholders.
  • Prior exposure to failure analysis techniques, semiconductor packaging (2.5D/3D), or quantum sensing / magnetic imaging technology is a strong plus.
  • A degree in Electrical Engineering, Physics, Materials Science, or a related technical field, or equivalent practical experience.

About us

QuantumDiamonds GmbH, headquartered in Munich, Germany, develops and manufactures semiconductor inspection systems based on quantum sensing. Spun out of the Technical University of Munich in 2022, the company uses nitrogen-vacancy centers in diamond to map electrical current with micrometer precision inside advanced 2.5D and 3D chip architectures. Nine of the world's ten largest semiconductor manufacturers are engaged with QuantumDiamonds, with systems deployed across Europe, the United States, and Asia. The company is investing €152 million to build the world's first production facility for quantum sensing-based semiconductor inspection tools, supported under the European Chips Act.
