Senior Data Scientist (Experimental and Signal Processing)

Permanent employee, Full-time · München

Description

At QuantumDiamonds, data science is about connecting physical measurements with meaningful insight. As a Senior Data Scientist (Experimental and Signal Processing) you will work at the intersection of quantum physics, optics, electronics, and computation. You will be responsible for the full analysis pipeline of our quantum diamond microscope, from sensor and signal characterization to algorithm development and data interpretation. Your work will focus on building models that capture noise and variability in optical and electronic measurements, extracting reliable information from experimental data, and translating these results into improvements of the instrument and clear feedback for semiconductor customers.

Who we are
Founded in 2022 as a spin-off of TU Munich, QD leverages quantum sensors to rapidly capture three-dimensional current maps within multi-layer chips. Our 30-strong team of physicists, engineers, and data scientists works side by side with major semiconductor manufacturers, helping them in chip debugging and accelerating their yield analysis. Backed by top-tier deep tech investors, semiconductor experts, and strategic public programs, we have ensured long-term stability, shifting from breakthrough to scale - and shaping the next chapter in chip testing.
Why join Quantum Diamonds?
Picture this:
  • A machine that catches what others miss – in milliseconds.
  • Physics, data, and engineering are working hand in hand to build tools that matter.
  • An international team, who loves solving hard problems and where knowledge flows fast.
Still unsure about why joining us?
  • You'll get to build a company together with a brilliant and welcoming team on a product that has never been done before.
  • Our technology is the cutting edge of tomorrow, starting today and not in 10 years.
  • You will work directly with major semiconductor companies from Day 1.
  • You'll get virtual shares and act on behalf of the entire company, beyond just your own team.
  • You’ll be part of a high-growth company backed by top-tier investors.
Let’s make the invisible visible!
What will you do
  • Analyse large and noisy experimental datasets from our microscopes, design robust algorithms, and extract reliable, physics-based insights.
  • Develop and validate advanced signal processing and statistical analysis methods that push the resolution, speed, and robustness of our quantum-sensing platform.
  • Design and interpret experiments across optics, electronics, and digital systems to identify performance bottlenecks.
  • Translate findings into actionable improvements in hardware and software, and work side-by-side with engineers to implement them.
  • Mentor junior team members and ensure best practices for analysis, reproducibility, and documentation.
  • Communicate results with clarity to both technical peers and semiconductor industry partners.
What is expected of you
  • PhD in Physics, Electrical/Optical Engineering, Applied Mathematics, or a closely related discipline. Exceptional MSc candidates with 6+ years of relevant R&D experience are welcome.
  • At least 4 years of industry experience applying data science in an experimental or instrumentation-heavy context (semiconductors, photonics, medical imaging, sensing, or related fields).
  • Proven expertise in statistical data analysis, experimental design, and advanced signal processing.
  • Demonstrated ability to take algorithms from concept to deployment with version control.
  • Hands-on mindset and comfort working closely with hardware in the lab.
  • Strong communication skills: able to turn complex data into clear stories for technical and non-technical audiences.
  • (Nice to have) Background in quantum sensing, advanced microscopy, or semiconductor device physics.
Our benefits
  • Competitive salary with equity participation.
  • 30 days of paid vacation plus public holidays.
  • Company-sponsored Wellpass membership.
  • Annual learning and development budget.
  • Regular off-sites and team events.
